Americans took a record 10.7 billion trips on mass transit last year this is a 37 percent increase since 1995 and far outpacing population growth. A recent article discusses the decreasing interest in cars by the newer generations. Formally, obtaining a license and car was a rite of passage, yet today teenagers are beginning to hold off on this right and are utilizing public transportation and bikes. “After rising almost continuously since World War II, driving by American households has declined nearly 10 percent since 2004”, and it seems economics are not the only cause. And it does not stop there. Earlier generations across the United States are looking for the less-driving lifestyle.
