Coming UP: A Bond Referendum in Cary and an Open House Meeting on the Avent Ferry Road Realignment in Holly Springs

Monday, August 5th
What: Parks, Recreation, & Cultural Resources Advisory Board in Cary

Here’s What’s Happening:
Included on the agenda for Monday’s PRCR Board meeting is an an update on the October 2019 General Obligation Bond Referendum.
In May 2019, the Cary Town Council voted unanimously to offer citizens the opportunity to vote in October on two general obligation bond initiatives worth a combined total of approximately $225 million. The bond initiatives would support projects associated with Parks and Transportation.
The Transportation Bond consists of $113 million for traffic improvement, resurfacing, intersection improvements, streetscape improvements, new traffic signal system software, sidewalks, and road widening. The Parks Bond consists of $112 million for new parks, including Phase 2 of the Downtown Park, two new parks in western Cary, a nine-acre park on Tryon Road, playground upgrades, historic properties preservation, open space preservation, and improvements to existing parks.

Tuesday, August 6th
What: Avent Ferry Road Realignment Open House Meeting in Holly Springs
Where: Holly Springs Town Hall, 128 S. Main St. Holly Springs, NC 27540
When: 5:00pm – 7:00 pm
Here’s What’s Happening:
Residents are invited to attend an open house meeting about realigning Avent Ferry Road in downtown Holly Springs for a new cross-town connection to Bass Lake Road. This transportation bond project is among those Holly Springs voters approved last November.
The project involves using Pine Street to connect Avent Ferry Road with Stinson Avenue. The existing Avent Ferry Road connection to Ballentine and Earp streets will remain, allowing for the same downtown access. The new cross-town connection project purposes are to reduce congestion downtown and create another access to the UNC Rex hospital site, which is under construction. The project is in the early stages. Design and permitting have not begun.
Drop by the first-floor Holleman Room anytime from 5-7 p.m. to talk with town staff, view project maps, and provide feedback about the project.

Friday, August 9th
What: Wake County Water Partnership Meeting in Raleigh
When: 1:00pm – 3:00pm
Where: Room 2800 of the Wake County Justice Center, 300 S Salisbury St, Raleigh, NC 27601
Here’s What’s Happening:
Established by the Wake County Board of Commissioners in 2016, the Wake County Water partnership acts in an advisory capacity to identify new water-related opportunities and challenges that impact the Wake County. The group includes representatives from the agriculture and building industries, in addition to representatives from municipalities, including well owners, water providers, academics, and environmental groups.
Wake County is in the process of developing a “One Water Approach” to water management, including a 50-year water supply plan. This emphasizes the connection of all water sources and supports continued collaboration, growth and prosperity within the county.
