Downtown Raleigh Intermodal Transportation Center Feasibility Study

Downtown Raleigh Intermodal Transportation Center Feasibility Study

It was determined that with approximately 9,640 weekday arrivals and departures expected by 2020(primarily CAT and TTA DMU riders), ridership in the Raleigh Metro region is high enough to warrant a multi-modal station.  This study also analyzed multiple sites throughout Raleigh to determine the best location for a multi-modal station.  A basic analysis led planners to look at 5 possible locations for Union Station, with 4 of those locations being in or adjacent to the Boylan Wye.  This study also made recommendations as to the facilities that would best support multi-modal transportation including pedestrian waiting areas, local and regional bus bays, and intercity and regional rail platforms.

Upon a more detailed analysis a single site inside the Boylan Wye was chosen based on the criteria of modal connections, transit usage, travel time, cost-effectiveness, impact on existing traffic circulation, and development opportunities. The chosen site has many beneficial qualities!
