April is National Garden Month, a time for communities, organizations, and individuals nationwide to celebrate the many benefits of growing our own healthy, natural food. Not only is gardening one of the simplest, most widely beneficial hobbies around, it’s also something that involves LITERAL good growth! In the present age of social distancing, it’s also a great way to stay active and keep kids meaningfully engaged while home from school.
At WakeUP Wake County, we promote good growth planning and sustainable, healthy communities for all. Good growth can mean a lot of different things to different people. To us, good growth typically means improving access to transit, creating bikeable and walkable communities, advancing housing affordability, maintaining environmental sustainability, and supporting excellence and creativity in public education and schools.
But in light of recent events, and in honor of the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, our work to support sustainable communities is growing! This spring, our “Good Growth” Campaign will bring you useful tips, resources, and activities about all things related to outdoor stewardship, from gardening, composting, and managing stormwater to environmental education and advocacy.
