Associate Director, WakeUP Wake County

 

WakeUP Wake County is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy organization focusing on the challenges and opportunities of Wake County’s tremendous growth.  WakeUP leads public engagement on issues that impact quality of life in Wake County and the NC Triangle: transportation, land use, drinking water, public schools, and affordable housing.  WakeUP educates citizens and policymakers about how the Triangle region should plan for growth.  WakeUP’s goal is to ensure sustainable, healthy communities for a better tomorrow.  WakeUP has received numerous awards for its local community advocacy and outreach.

WakeUP seeks an Associate Director to:

  1. Help lead policy advocacy and public education strategy around certain of WakeUP’s priority issues (potentially: water quality & water supply, public schools, transit, or affordable housing – depending upon expertise and interest),
  2. Coordinate and carry out fundraising and development communications for the organization
  3. Assist with WakeUP community events and public outreach.

WakeUP staff work collaboratively with other staff, volunteers, and community partners. The Associate Director will work closely with WakeUP’s Executive Director, WakeUP Board of Directors, volunteers, and non-profit partner organizations to carry out advocacy, issue-specific communications, and public engagement strategy on municipal, school board, and state policy issues.  The Associate Director will work closely with the Executive Director and fundraising committee to guide and coordinate fundraising strategy and communications for the organization.  The Associate Director will meet with local elected officials, donors, and the media.

Experience:
 The ideal candidate would be a high-energy, positive, well-organized professional, with at least 2-3 years of experience in policy advocacy and/or fundraising/development, and a Bachelor’s degree or greater. A job candidate should possess strong written and verbal communications skills and enjoy public speaking.  Professional experience with social media helpful.  Interest and background in growth and sustainability issues, including urban planning, transportation, affordable housing, clean water, and public schools a plus. This is a full-time position working with a small staff.

Salary range: $37,000-$40,000, depending upon experience.
