Mayor Meeker calls for new transit infrastructure investments

…Meeker did not ask that a half-cent sales tax increase for mass transit be added to the ballot this fall, but said afterward that he would support it if momentum built from other quarters. The Wake County commissioners have said more time is needed for developing and vetting a detailed plan, and they will not consider scheduling a transit tax referendum before spring or fall 2012.

“It’s time that we have a lot more bike lanes,” he said. “This is a young city, and people do get around on bikes.”
