With over 180 citizens in attendance, we are proud to call Monday night’s Raleigh City Council candidate forum a success! Hosted by WakeUP Wake County, El Pueblo, The League of Women Voters of Wake County and Delta Sigma Theta, the candidates were packed as tightly as the audience, with 16 out of 18 candidates participating. With many important growth-related issues currently facing Raleigh, candidates were eager to share their vision about how the city should develop in the coming years. Much of the conversation centered on affordable housing, transportation, economic development, and the new UDO (Unified Development Ordinance). Other questions from the moderator and audience inquired about police-community relations, voter identification, clean water protections, and council-staff relations. For a more detailed recap of the discussions, visit The Independent Weekly’s minute-by-minute coverage.
Cary Town Council elections are also fast approaching. Video coverage of their last candidate forum can be found here, and Heart of Cary is hosting a “Downtown Debate” with candidates on Monday, September 28, 7pm at The Cary. Be sure to check them both out!
