Advocacy in 2020
As an organization that promotes sustainable, equitable growth throughout Wake County, WakeUP is always engaging with community members, local partners, and elected officials to speak UP for what we believe our region’s future should look like.
Of course, the COVID-19 pandemic put a halt to all of our in-person meetings and events. But that didn’t stop our efforts to bring together diverse voices from across the region to talk about advancing sustainability and building strong, resilient communities throughout Wake County.
Throughout 2020, WakeUP Wake County, along with out transit coalition, Capital Area Friends of Transit (CAFT), hosted a number of engaging virtual events and panel discussions, featuring local experts in transportation, land use, and planning. Topics for our virtual events ranged from the City of Raleigh’s Greenway Master Plan update to new challenges facing transit and active transportation in a post-COVID world.
In addition to our public events and meetings, we also sent out a number of advocacy letters to elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels.
