Big Changes for Wake County and WakeUP

As one of the fastest-growing regions in the nation for more than a decade, change is a constant in our community. WakeUP was founded to inform, educate and advocate for smart growth. That work has never been more crucial as the pressures of growth now mean fundamental changes in key areas like housing density, transportation, and more.

For more than a decade Karen Rindge has been a vital part of WakeUP’s efforts, first as Board Chair and then as the organization’s first employee and finally as Executive Director. Karen has resigned from her position but will continue to serve in an advisory capacity. I know you’ll join me in sending sincere thanks for her commitment and outstanding work!

Last summer, WakeUP hired Heather Keefer as Associate Director. Heather will assume the role of Acting Executive Director. She comes to us as a water resources expert and has extensive experience with municipal government. I hope you will continue to share your concerns and ideas with her. In addition, Trey Roberts joined us several months ago and is now our fulltime Outreach Coordinator.

I was pleased and honored to be elected by the Board of WakeUP to serve as Chair for 2019-2020. As a long-time resident of the county, I’ve seen changes, challenges and opportunities and look forward to working with you to continue to build a healthy, sustainable community.

You can learn more about the staff, our newly-elected Executive Committee, and the outstanding community members who serve on our Board of Directors here.

Thanks to you and everyone who made our end-of-the year fundraising effort so successful!

Stay engaged–speak up. And please continue to support the work of WakeUP.

Susan Parry

Chair

“Many thanks to all the friends, local leaders, and community members who have made my work at WakeUP so rewarding. I’m enormously proud of WakeUP’s accomplishments and grateful to have played a key role in them, but growth hasn’t stopped and the need to plan for the future is so important. Together, we’ll continue to make Wake County great!” – Karen Rindge, former Executive Director
