GSIW receives Blueprint North Carolina’s ‘Look Out 2011 Award’

Blueprint North Carolina, a partnership of more than 50 nonprofits dedicated to achieving a better, fairer, healthier North Carolina, issued GSIW the ‘Lookout 2011’ award for the coalition’s comprehensive coverage of recent Wake school board majority policy changes.  Read more below:

We also want to recognize the work of a group that barely existed at the beginning of the year, but in a few months has built the kind of source credibility that typically takes years.

They did it with an abundance of energy, persistence and grassroots organizing that allows them to respond timely with letters to the editor. They also offer reporters research that newsrooms once did, but are more challenged to do now – in a series of reports and community forums with quotable experts. For reporters, they are dependably available – I’ve never seen a story that said there was no one from this partner available for comment. And I almost never see a story about Wake schools that doesn’t reflect their position.

They’re only going to get better, so our award for Look Out 2011 is Great Schools in Wake.
