The Numbers Don’t Lie: Rapid Growth Pressures Wake County

Over the past few decades, the Triangle has undergone remarkable growth. Wake County is the second fastest growing county in the U.S. today, and although such growth can be exciting, it can also put strain on our way of life by impacting our community’s natural resources and infrastructure.

This growth is often felt during our daily commute when we find ourselves sitting in traffic. According to official projections, Wake County’s population will reach an astounding 1.45 million people within the next 20 years. The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) estimates that, by the year 2045, average travel times inside the I-440 beltline in Raleigh will be approximately 20 minutes longer than today.

Everyday WakeUP is shaping the conversation on responsible growth by providing education and advocacy on growth issues such as transportation, housing, land use, water, and schools, ensuring that equity and climate change are included in all our work.
