Greenwire, the national energy and environment online news agency, recently released a report on transit challenges in Mecklenburg and Wake Counties. Reporter Sean Reilly links lack of transit revenue and political roadblocks to the NC General Assembly.
The story highlights growing demand for transit in fast-
growing Charlotte, but notes a lack of state funding to complete the system. The Lynx light rail line now averages a weekday ridership of about 15,000 passengers. Meanwhile, in Wake County, recent legislative action in the NC General Assembly will slow down local efforts to advance a Wake County transit plan. Due to recent legislation, a transit funding referendum for Wake County must be delayed until at least 2016.
