Dear Friends,
For the past two years, I’ve had the privilege to serve as the Chair of the Board of Directors for WakeUP Wake County. As Wake County’s leading advocacy organization for sustainable growth, WakeUP excels at creating connections between people and places and fostering safe, vibrant communities for all.
It’s fair to say 2020 has been a year unlike any in recent memory. Over the past year, we’ve dealt with housing crises, instances of racial injustice, and, of course, COVID-19. Nonetheless, despite these enormous challenges, I am as hopeful as ever about our region’s future because of organizations like WakeUP, whose work has never been more important than it is right now.
In fact, thanks in part to WakeUP’s tireless advocacy around housing, transit, and environmental sustainability, our communities managed to come together this year to accomplish some truly remarkable things.
As you’re likely aware, voters in Raleigh last month overwhelmingly approved the city’s historic $80 million Affordable Housing Bond. WakeUP supported the housing bond referendum because we believe the programs included in the bond package constitute the start of a good comprehensive plan for dealing with the city’s housing problems. But the bond is just that — a start. In the months and years ahead, local leaders will need to work together with concerned residents like you to develop solutions to the many housing challenges bond money alone will not address.
WakeUP is excited to begin convening the necessary meetings to get these conversations started, but we cannot do it without financial support. Our ability to continue advocating for a high quality of life for all Wake County residents — one that respects the importance of a sustainable future — depends critically on generous donations from supporters like you.
So as we prepare to close the book on this difficult year, I am asking you to please consider giving to WakeUP Wake County today. Donors like you helped us meet our $10,000 match and now we’re asking for your help to make it to $12,000 before the 31st of December. To make your donation here.
Thank you for your consideration during this difficult year. Our work wouldn’t be possible without your generous support.
Sincerely,
Susan Parry, Board Chair
